But why should it be neccesary to devote one month to British Music, other than to admit that Radio 3 neglects it for the rest of the year?

Perhaps, just perhaps this is The Powers That Be checking out the response to British music - if they get masses of requests, tweets, etc they'll be encouraged to weave more British fare into the weekly cloth - who knows?

That's why anton, BBM, etc have been banging on about June being British music month - let's hope it makes a difference

Frank Bridge - The Sea !!
Bridge The Sea is a wonderful piece, I agree and I heard it 'in the flesh'
a few months back played by the Philharmonia conducted by Edward Gardner ... and it was even better 'live'

How is it not possible to 'abide' British music if one is a fan of classical/orchestra/German/serious music?

I'm sure there's a few punk-rockers out there who can't abide with us, and some boogie boys. But us lot!!!?

Maybe it's not the music that can't be 'abidable', but the concept

If its done within reasonable limits, but regularly, instead of a month of "wham, we are going to drown you"

it ought to be fine for you and great for those who like british music, I suppose.

Well, they had their ‘good lord…’ month back in March, and if the effect/result of the Baroque Spring is anything to go by, I should think we’ll be fairly ‘safe’.

I doubt that many remember Muir Mathieson, but he said things I remember. One was 'There are only two kinds of music, good and bad'. You can't judge a work purely by the place where the composer was born.

I can't listen to a lotof Wagner but it doesn't mean I dislike all German/Austrian music. The Schubertfest almost put me off that composer but as long as this month opens the BBC ears to our requests it won't be wasted.

The British musicfest would certainly put me off were it to be represented by one man alone, especially were that to be Benjamin Britten. But that alone illustrates the meaninglessness of comparing this particular extended event with the Schubert-one-man-bandfest. Vinteuil's dislike of "British" music needs an awful lot of generalisation applied to make any sense of it.

I think like one boarder said above, that it might be a case let's see iof we do a month opf drowned oit to British music, then we see how many tweets we are getting to this efffect and if there are enough, over a period of time slot in some more British music but not in a overwehlming Brit Fest but, as part of the schedules, as there seems to be quite a calling for this!?!??!?

Has anyone been checking how many of anton's list items have been played? I've just noticed that Arthur Butterworth's The Path Across the Moors is to be the first item in Sunday's programme.
