"BBC Radio 3 is to celebrate the music of the British Isles throughout June, from Parry’s Jerusalem to music from the Court of Mary Queen of Scots.

Among the highlights of the month-long celebration will be Rob Cowan and Sarah Walker’s 'Essential Classics', which will introduce 20 Great Works every weekday from 9am. In addition 'Composer of the Week' will examine the works of four leading English composers – Vaughan Williams, Parry, Elgar and Lloyd."

I hope that this will cheer up all our members who are great enthusiasts for the music of these isles. I'm wonder if their threads have encouraged the BBC in this month-long celebration? Perhaps some e-mails/tweets/texts to Radio 3 will encourage them further, perhaps to include British music more generally in programming.

Now don't let's get all negative, let's wait and see what they deliver. They may surprise us, and then won't that be a cause for celebration

There again, it may be as you suggest salymap - the usual suspects.

But I'd encourage British music enthusiasts to reserve judgement until the month is up and then we can make representation to Radio 3 as appropriate.

This was the press release. I'm afraid I rather took it as the latest of the Radio 3 special publicity events when I read:

Composer of the Week (weekdays at 12 noon and 6.30pm) looks at four leading English composers – Ralph Vaughan Williams (composer of works including The Lark Ascending and Fantasia On Greensleeves), Sir Charles Hubert Parry (Jerusalem and I Was Glad), Sir Edward Elgar (Pomp And Circumstance Marches and The Dream Of Gerontius), and George Lloyd, known chiefly for his symphonic output. "

personally, I think the whole thing could have "added value" if Radio Cheshire sent a YTS kid with a microphone, a tape recorder and an asda "Jumbo Jotter" round to EdgeleyRob's house, and told them not to come back to the studio till they had enough material for a weeks proper in depth discussion.

We need to be making a list of out-of-the-way British pieces that are short enough to influence the tweet/Facebook -dominated programmes like Breakfast. Our requests might yield some positive results - after all BBM has been getting brass band recordings played quite often recently
