I wonder if the Heffer will get round to covering Queldryk.

did you discover him whilst wiping the floor with your opponents in a scrabble competition, @Nogs?

Clearly no-one noticed, par for the course on R3 these days I'm afraid.
Just been listening to that. One has to assume that SH recorded all the commentary, and then brain-fade set in among the production team at a later date, when the music was slotted in. A major blooper. I imagine SH is furious. (I didn't mind - I didn't know the Capriccio Burlesco... and enjoyed it.) Thanks for the warning, Messrs Slater and coastal

Just listened to it Rumpole and it was amazing the lengths SH went to describe the piece ......should he, if the programme is a cobbled together recording, have listened to it right through or did he not have 2 hours to spare?

I agree, the detail in his description made it doubly embarrassing. I think he can be forgiven for assuming that R3 would get it right... He presumably recorded the commentary for all 4 programmes closely together. I would love to be able to find out...

I know that when Listener's' Choice first started it was live every week. Finally the presenter was sent about 6 weeks' CDs together and he composed his links and then made one journey to the studio to record them. A bit like TTN now.

A bit strange. The playlists for the first two programmes are up, and for this coming Saturday, the fourth one. But not for last Saturday http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b02x91m5 . Were they in a bit of a dilemma? - do they list the piece of music that was played (Capriccio burlesco) or the piece that SH discussed (Johannesburg Festival Ov)?

The list was up a few days ago, still advertising the JFO. (See the printable. I have corrected the blog version.)

                    Perhaps it's down for editing?

Well, it looks as if they rumbled - someone also pointed out the mistake on Facebook.

But if they edit it, they still have the anomaly of listing one piece and talking about a different one - unless they slip the Cb into the iPlayer, and I don't think that's possible. They would have taken their initial playlist from SH's own list, presumably.

Given that it would be too difficult to edit the iPlayer file, the sensible approach would be to correct the list and insert a note indicating the mistake. It's an easy mistake to make (both pieces are about the same length and are similar in several respects: someone who only half-remembered either piece could confuse them) but with the BBC continuing with its culture of never owning up to being in the wrong, who knows what they'll do?

It indicates the change of culture. I'm sure in "Ye Olden Dayes" there would have been no reason not to say a mistake had been made, apologise, and correct it. Not a big deal.

The difficulty comes when it's really too late to do that because no one who should have realised it was wrong, did.

Yes there were mistakes made in the past, but there was always an apology and correction. It does seem that R3 under the RW regime just doesn't care. One look at the messy website and the regular errors and duplications on playlists goes to highlight the total lack of professionalism and pride that has crept in under the current regime.

I wonder whether SH will comment about it on Saturday, given that it was almost certainly not his fault, but it rather looked as if it was.

It'll have been long in the can, won't it?
