Simon Heffer presenting British music throughout June: Saturday Classics
Now a near neighbour of yours, Ammy, if the Mail is to be believed... ()
Any sightings...?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
Really? I'm shocked Are you certain? Queen's Park NW6, perhaps. A link to the reference in the Daily Male would be sufficient
The article refers to her "flat in nearby Willesden Green"

I like FF's formula. It could usefully be employed with other variables elsewhere.
Any old how, back in my days in the public sector, if you went away on a course, for instance, you got an overnight allowance which broadly comprised a nights decent B and B, second class train fare or equivalent in petrol money, and a meal.If you claimed the overnight you had to stay away from your home, but if you cadged a bed from a friend, you could pocket the money. It worked, and kept costs in check.
Not as much fun as a BBC Platinum credit card, I guess.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I was always talking about La Sancha Apologies for ambiguity, though it must come as a relief to find you don't have David "Shagger" Mellor in your environs

Too bluddy true - don't want him scoring all the good CDs from the charity shops
the petty nastiness of the Mail is hard to take ... why did they refer to her flat as shabby? ... the lady clearly lives on modest means, without an expenses account i'd guess ... is Willesden 'shabby' .. i don't think so, not nearly as shabby as the Mail and its social pretensions and hypocrisies ... and of course Heffer works for it ....
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

'petty nastiness' and a certain vengefulness too, Calum - repellent
concepts of "Britishness", British music, and dangerously divisive opinions held by people with influence like Heffer, sit uneasily together.
I can't see how. I'd have thought that anything that promoted Britishness and British music was by definition a good thing for Britain. I don't often see his articles of course, so I admit I haven't read him being "divisive".
Talent was brought into the conversation by Simon. Make of that what you will.
Sorry old chap - that's not quite right...
From one of your posts upthread: "I think it does matter who gets given such high profile, influential jobs.
We have a nation full of talented people, and good messages really matter."
The BBC/industry use of 'talent' refers to presenters' fluency, motormouth ability to ad lib, and interact with their audiences:
And thereby lies my error, of course. I was using the word - and assuming ts had used the word - in its common sense, i.e. meaning ability, perhaps with a hint of flair.
the petty nastiness of the Mail is hard to take ...
Whereas this, of course, is balanced, fair and pleasant...
"i will not listen to Heffer since he advocates shooting people .... if he was [sic] a Muslim his advocacy would have had him in nick years ago ... an intolerant thug of the imperial sort .... utterly loathsome ... "
Or is it, perhaps, an intemperate ad hominem attack with no evidence to back it up?

A good collective noun for Daily Wail correspondents might be Hefferlumpenbourgeoisie.
