    Katharina Wolpe


    Following the recent reference to Katharina Wolpe in the obituary thread, it may interest members to hear a recording I made in 1965 of a live broadcast, in which she played a popular French piano-forte sonata. The enthusasm of the audience is striking:

    I was very moved by Martin Handley's brief eulogy for Katharina Wolpe in last Sunday's 'Breakfast', which made the ensuing Schubert impromptu (No. 3 in G Flat) almost unbearably poignant to listen to. and that she survived her tragic youth to arrive at such marvellous playing
