    Baroque Bites - Simon Heighes

I was quite amused by SH's short talk on yesterday's Essential Classics:

With Rob Cowan. Including Rob's Essential Choice: Pergolesi: Stabat Mater.

    (about 1hr54min30sec into the programme)

He ponders on how modern performance practice would sound to an audience 50 years ago and suggests that with tempi speeding up and orchstras slimming down the B minor Mass would seem like the B minor madrigal. But his talk is not anti-HIPP. He goes on to remark on how Bach himself treated music of the past, e.g. his 'arrangement' of Palestrina....which I hadn't heard about before.

The Bite is preceded by an electronic prelude and succeeded by a smoochy sop aria.

Looking forward to the St Matthew madrigal on Sunday!
