A fine and different concert in the Bridgewater Hall last night. (28th February)
Halle Orchestra conducted by Markus Stenz with Valda Wilson (Soprano), Anna Grevelius (Mezzo-Soprano), the ladies of the Halle Choir and Halle Youth Choir and 4 actors from the Manchester School of Theatre.
The Overture and all the incidental music for Mendelssohn's Midsummers Night's Dream with words from Shakespeare's play. A combination of words and music ingeniously put together by Gerald McBurney and receiving it's UK premiere.
A refreshing change from the usual concerts, well played, well sung (the small part sung by the choir was magnificent) and well spoken and acted. A concert to cherish.
The Halle should be bringing it to the Proms like they did Elgar's 'Apostles' last year.
