he interview was certainly worth hearing, as was the first half of the concert.

I am pretty certain there must have been lots of other interesting material as well......

Martin said she hadn't been well and she did fade off once or twice, or was it my computer? What a life and I think he said her second husband has just died. She's been through so much and giving a concert in March. What a girl! And Isee Humphrey Bogart in a new light. Good for him.

yes that was interesting about Bogart. The Mahler must have influenced him !!
I would have liked to have heard more about the music written for her, and how she felt about it.
It wasn't exactly crystal clear on iplayer, so I did miss the odd line.

I'm afraid I missed some of it live and on iPlayer, but then I have tinnitus which didn't help.

Yes, they must have a lot more 'on tape' - I hope they'll make a longer programme out of the material. She rather skipped over what must have been awful years in Switzerland, abandoned by both parents - extraordinary.

Yes, it was fascinating, although with one or two rather infelicitous comments about the time when she & her parents were 'collected' by the Germans - she mentioned how excited she had been, as that was the first time she had seen men - well, apart from Jewish intellectuals (said with a rather dismissive tone), and that the German soldiers were 'dressed to kill'. I assume she meant it in the sense of dressed in their best, or at their most impressive, but ...

                            Katharina Wolpe RIP

A MB member has just told me the sad news. Apologies if there has been a thread earlier.

Apparently she was killed in an accident on February 10th - I know she was due to give a concert or recital in March.

I wrote about my brief meetings with her elsewhere when she actually came to see my boss several times in the late 1960s.

                            RIP Katharina Wolpe
