It is a shame that this Naxos reissue omits the Concerto that was on the original Delos CD:

Nicer covers on the Naxos series, though.

So have you ordered the forthcoming Kuniko recording on Linn yet? I am very tempted, despite its relatively short duration. Europadisc have it on offer at a discount until towards the end of November. I might well put in an order for that, with the Bach 333 as a makeweight to get free delivery.

        Good plan.

Don’t forget to order another Lazy Susan.

        ( sounds awfully sexist doesn’t it ?)

I quite fancy that, but as a download and the Linn price isn't keen.

With you re. the price of downloads. The Europadisc discounted CD price is lower than the LINN 44.1/16 FLAC download. Bizarre! Shame it's not an SACD though, as her previous Riech release on Linn was.

Do you know of Pisotn's chamber works? excellent Naxos surveys there
Six months late from me - sorry, I have only just spotted your post - no, I don't and will now explore.

I always find that I am "unsure" about Piston's symphonies just as I am a bit unsure of Persichetti's and more than a bit unsure of Schuman's. But herein is the point. I have found much more in, say, Persichetti's piano music which was a revelation and something like Schuman's "Undertow" so a look at Piston's work more in the round could be equally rewarding.

Hah, and I only mentioned him yesterday so spotting this feels a bit strange.

I don't know this disc - or him - but have dipped into his Cathedral Music.

Not too sure yet - but I do think he has a fairly distinctive musical voice.

I have been listening to these unusual albums today:

Jon Appleton - Appleton Syntonic Menagerie (1969)

Alvin Curran - Songs and Views of the Magnetic Garden (1974)

                  This is good too, Lat.

Especially the Pulitzer Prize winning Symphony #1 "RiverRun".

Though RiverRun does not appear to be available on YouTube, the 2nd is:

Having attended a performance of Bernstein's 'MASS' this year, I would certainly add this my list to American Classics. Mrs. PG and I were singing bits of it this morning!

Fascinating that so many of these Naxos recordings of American music are played by Russian orchestras!

Not really - Naxos' business model is well-known and has been for many years. More of an interesting observation rather than anything else, I'd say.

Yes - interesting and informative to have the Joyce context. He was very listenable as an interviewee so I may well take that interview link through in full. You might wish to obtain the 2018 album I mentioned on the general listening thread. I will probably dip into a range of his compositions first. All these years on, what are new names to me keep cropping up!
