Yes it would indeed. Although it seems to be a single-movement adagio, there's a lot going on, so that the tempo is secondary.

What I like about a lot of the American composers, is that they manage to write very challenging works, that sound different, mysterious and modern, while remaining tonal.

Like George Rochberg, Roy Harris, David Diamond for example. The list is actually quite long.

And includes composers like Stephen Albert, who was sadly killed in a road-traffic accident at a relatively young age....

I bought another download of Rouse's music. A violin concerto and a very interesting percussion concerto with a little Wagner ring send-up! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

                      Rating out of 10, Beefy?

Only played it twice, but I'd give 8/10.

The percussion concerto is dedicated to our very own Evelyn Glennie who is the solo performer, and is a raucous, fun affair with a cracking, loud, OTT finale.

The violin concerto seems the better work. In two movements lasting just over 24 minutes, it also features some great percussion.

There is a third work on this set, but I haven't played it.

The Orchestra is the Helsinki Philharmonic under Leif Segerstam.
