The Barber violin concerto hasn't dimmed at all with overplaying - just pure magic...
Then Joshua Bell came along - his version (with Zinman?) is terrific too. Gil Shaham and Previn's good too but a rather gloopy recording on DG as I recall.

I love this work too. I have versions by Bell and Ehnes, but recently decided to add Hilary Hahn's. Her performance is perhaps more understated than Bell's, but no less affecting. It also comes with a concerto by contemporary composer Edgar Meyer, which I enjoyed on first listen.

I love the Violin Concerto though I still prefer the Piano Concerto, especially the slow movement and finale. I've got a score and the Concerto is fiendishly difficult in places.

I strongly recommend the sACD version on the BIS Label with Vadim Guzman. I also note that the Hiliary Hahn recording is going for a tenner over here.
I prefer Guzman's couplings, although the Edgar Meyer piece is fun

A favourite Copland disc .....



Copland's Appalachian Spring is usually heard in its orchestral suite version, but I much prefer it as played here, as originally scored for 13 person chamber orchestra which (imv) best brings out the beauty and intimacy of the music. The Nonet is also a fine work.
