He stated that he is worried, I was not speaking for him. A bit of advice, push your bed against the wall.

Masterpieces? If they have, please recommend them & I'll listen openly.

I listened to Towers' Concerto for orchestra and said that I enjoyed it but found it ultimately unmemorable. Listening to other pieces by her led me to believe that she tends to repeat herself particularly in the use of loud percussion. The two Rorem symphonies do not show, to my untrained ear, little evidence of being symphonies, something which I have found sadly common in USA symphonies (but I'm always open to education - I greatly appreciate the referral to Harris symphony no3 ).

I do not write these thoughts to contradict you; I write them because I want to present my point of view' and you're welcome to respond. OK?

              Old American Indian saying, Beefy?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Been having a good listen to Barber Symphony #1 today.
Not an obscure "lost " classic I know, but what a rip snorter of a piece it is.
Going to become a favourite, I think.

and Ned's trio of Symphonies has turned up......

Barber's Symphonies 1&2 are glorious, I adore both works. Rorem's Symphonies are top- notch too (though there are dissenters on here).

Agreed about the Barber; don't really know the Rorem yet.

But then nor's 1, which at times threatens to sound to me almost like a kind of premature English Pettersson in places...

Pettersson is on my "to do " list....so will have to take your word for it, AH, but it sounds like a good recommendation.
I know Beef Oven is a big fan....

Ned Rorem #3 as recommended by Beefy/Roehre/Suffy.
Oddly, has taken me a while to get into this stuff.
