Anyone still have that phone number for cd collectors anonymous ?
ROFL.
I reorganised mine today...kids stuff compared to most of you lot !
!My Amazon birthday voucher is being stretched well beyond its natural limit...I need to happen upon a big collection in need of a home.....
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I'm sure we've discussed Crumb before ?
but Black Angels is one of the greatest string quartets of the last century for starters
the most terrifying opening in music
and definitely not "relaxing classics"

Recommendable and preferable to the CBS recordings of the Symphonies.
Both symphonies are played in revised versions, but the differences between the originals (originally recorded on CBS) and the final versions (here on DG) are hardly distinguishable (amended -thinned that is- orchestrations mostly). The Chichester Psalms are in the orchestral version.
It's the serious Bernstein here, but these works are IMO much stronger than his uneven Mass, well recorded with an air of authenticity in the mid 1980s IIRC.

Cheers Roehre....I shall order, on your recommendation !
I loved the Mass at the Proms this year (on TV)....but perhaps its best enjoyed like that.
