      3. Alwyn

Rawsthorne 2 and Alwyn 3... now there are two discoveries I'm tempted to make in 2013.

Recommended versions, ts and anton, please!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I thought you said you didn't like Bruckner, saly.

              I feel very lonely now.

You'll probably be steered towards the Naxos releases on both counts. They are fine (I have all of them, including the chamber stuff).

But, I also have the Lyrita releases of both composers' orchestral works, including all the symphonies and I think they are superior. Either way, you will not be disappointed.

I envy you coming to these two marvellous composers for the first time.

P.S. Check out Lyrita, I think it's the best small label ever http://www.lyrita.co.uk/index.php?id=catalogue

Didn't mean to be presumptuous, was just over-enthusiastic about Lyrita - labels like that won't be around much longer

Okay, you're obviously a very hard taskmaster in such affairs of the heart, Sir ... so in this season of goodwill I'm unusually and generously prepared to compromise ... a kilometre ..?

Caliban,I have to agree with Beefy,Hickox on Chandos for the Alwyn too although a bit pricey in cd form.

I couldn't imagine not having these records.

Hmm. Applying that rule would be interesting in the case of R.V.W. as the first one to be given a number was the eighth.
