Which composer do you like more than you think you do?
For me very few that I like more than I think I do. For me what composer do I really not like? Easy answer, Delius. My idea of a perfect Xmas gift are 10 Delius cd's and a Hammer, Shostakovitch is a close 2nd.
yep RVW always does better than i expect .... and i find my ears pricked
Not sure I could survive without RVW's music,it is an essential part of my well-being,a bit like my blood pressure and asthma medication.
Which composer do I like more than I think I do? Wagner.
I have the Bohm ring cycle and a couple of orchestral and BC cds.
I've not yet heard every note of the ring, never seem to find the time,it's on my 'when I retire ' list.
On the occasions when I dip into these records I enjoy the music more than I was expecting to.
I'm not sure I really like Brahms' Symphonies much I like a lot of his piano music, Four Serious Songs, concertos, can't stand the St Antoni Chorale [Haydn variations]. I have sometimes heard the symphonies lately and quite enjoyed them though. St Antoni never.

Love Brahms as a rule, but those variations I have to agree are ...oh well lets just say, not for me !
Trying to think of a composer who fits the OP for me, but can't yet....
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
Brahms and Handel for me - both are composers I habitually dismissed and whose positive qualities I am starting to discover. My problem with Brahms is that early on I heard a couple of pieces I still dislike (the 2nd Piano Concerto and the Double Concerto) and any echoes of those works in the symphonies etc turned on the gagging response. I then got to know the songs and have come to hear the lyrical aspect of his music in the instrumental music too. Handel - always heard him as not-as-good-as-Bach rather than the very different sort of animal - a theatre animal - that he is.
There are several more composers though whose music I like less than I think I do (and quite a few whose music I like exactly as little as I think I do!)
