People I once knew, where are they now ?

As I recently had amazing PMs from folks who knew Avril Wood and the late Frederick Marshall I thought I would ask if anyone knows or knew Ian Kellam and David Dorwood or Dorward.[ Not Diamond.]

Both very talented composers . Both, I believe, connected with Dartington Hall, Devon.

I don't know anything much about the others but I did meet David Dorward once, years ago. A slightly younger contemporary and compatriot of Ronald Stevenson and Thea Musgrave, his work seems to have dropped off the radar even more than has theirs, just as has that of one of his teachers, the Scots composer Cedric Thorpe Davie. I confess, shamefully, to be largely ignorant of his music and can't even now remember the details of the occasion on which I met him, although I do seem to recall being introduced to him by Stevenson. He will be 80 next year and retired from BBC in Scotland more than 20 years ago, I think.

Thanks ahinton. He worked for a short time in the ground floor music shop, as did Ian Kellam, and I worked upstairs in the publishing offices. They were both marking time and had already each composed several works, I believe. This was in the 1950s, a lifetime ago.

I didn't hear any of David's music but Ian wrote some lovely choral works and songs. Thanks again.

David Dorward was a wonderful BBC producer based in Edinburgh during the 3 or 4 years that I occasionally worked with him.
During that time ( 1966-1970) I played ( with the BBCSSO) his superb Symphony ( no 1? there may be more since then) and also played my 'one and only' BBC piano recital for which DD was the very sympathetic and encouraging producer.

There are two to date, I believe.

I hang my head in shame - I should have looked on BT/Google Ian lives in Glos and has written a lot of theatre and church music. He did write some beautiful church anthems when very young,I remember.

Bit of a mystery this. Hardly any recent trace on the web.
The only clue on Wiki is a data protection notice at the bottom of the search page.Very odd.

                  Edit.
I wonder if he is the father of Lucy Nolan , a prominent violist and. teacher in the North of England. She was born in Dublin.
