Mahan Esfahani's comment about being told how wonderful the music/performance is: he just said 'on radio' so it may have been US radio. I think probably this is something that Radio 3 does more than Classic FM(?), where the emphasis would be more on the relaxing, chill-out quality of the music.
Unless he's a much more naive person than I take him for, Mahan Esfahani's words were chosen with care. Knowing that his audience (radio and live) would be predominantly British, he would have known that his words would be taken to apply to British radio presenters. There was no disclaimer to the effect that "of course I don't mean here in the UK or Radio 3!" Moreover, given that we know several of the Radio 3 presenters are given to this kind of gushing waffle, it's clear to me that it was meant to apply to Radio 3 as much as any other broadcaster. Tom Service's mumbling, stumbling reaction is another indication that his words hit home. So far, none of the British press appears to have picked up on it, but we can but hope.
I also didn't realise he was resident in the UK now so ...
By the way, own up! Which member of this forum is writing for Private Eye?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
