What they are up to in Sussex. Does John Cage's estate have a case?:

"Silence" is recorded and released on CD by an East Sussex church to raise its profile and generate funds for the building.

    No.

Sound quite a pleasant idea to me, especially for people who live in cities and can't get peace. Imagine if you were ill in some place like Hounslow and could put this on headphones and drift off to sleep... :-)

I recommend Wingerworth Parish Church, near Chesterfield, for magnificent acoustical silence. A wonderful place for choirs to sing also.

Only if the CD is divided into bands of 4'33".

I read the church attending proposers's name as "Mr Bling"

Unfortunately it sounds as though there is human speech at the start and at the end which limits its attraction for this purpose

Not necessarily true. Mike Batt included a track titled "A One Minute's Silence" on a CD and was taken to court by Cage's estate.

that's not really what happened though

Wombles composer Mike Batt admits that a legal battle over a silent song was nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Cage wasn't first to 'write' or 'compose' or 'perform' a silent musical composition,
