    Taiko drummers?

Are Taiko drummers worth hearing? There's an opportunity to hear these in a week or so - http://www.taiko.co.uk/

I didn't realise at first that this group is based in Scotland - doesn't look as though there are (m)any Japanese in the group. I feel that maybe earplugs would be needed in relatively small theatres!

The videos from the site look quite exciting, but again I'm not sure that the music style could sustain interest for long periods. It's worth looking at the videos to get a feel of what might be offered.

I've not decided whether to go or stay away yet.

A quick J-Googling tells me that this is more a therapeutic activity than a musical performance. A kind of Sonic Yoga?

As far as I know, these large drums are traditionally a ‘solo’ instrument, most often associated with (again, as far as I know which is not very much) the sound of village harvest festivals: young men of the village would beat it in turn to tell the people to get ready for the festival.

As for the base of the group, this ‘Mugenkyo’ groups seem to be indigenous to Europe although the activity itself seems to be quite trendy Japan, too.

I forgot all about this, so didn't!

I wonder if any others round here have experienced similar performances.
