    John Cage

It was very interesting to about of the life and work of John Cage in Music Matters. I used to think he was to be admired only for making a career for himself by spouting nonsense, but after having listened to the show I now discover that he is a kind of mixture of Beethoven and Jesus. I was particularly struck by the fact that it was John Cage who freed us to enjoy birdsong outside our window--something that I had not previously realised.

Thoroughly agree. I've been through the same experience. The phenomenon is that there's a certain piece that become notorious over a much wider audience than you expected to reach, and that's all you get known for. As you can tell from my tone, I've tried to avoid it myself :-)
