Thanks for that. What an interesting choice of entry soundtrack! They could have opted for something obvious, like a Sea Interlude or YPGO. Could this be the year when Gloriana is reappraised?

In terms of value: yes, but in terms of longevity: please on a 50p coin, as those will be in circulation much longer than any note of what denomination whatever.

Thanks, mercs: I think this is the 50th anniversary performance that the BBC conspicuously failed to record/broadcast (probably some important baking competition needing the airspace!) - superb performance, if so.

Indeed. I shopped around for the DVD recording - CBSO/Nelsons - and the best deal was £12 99, post free, from Sainsbury's Entertainment.

But it used a girls' choir, which isn't what Britten asked for. Otherwise, I agree it was very good.
