Posted this in a separate forum but I thought Britten 100 fans might find this an appealing 3 day festival. Very tempting programmes:

I'm not involved (alas!) but I hear snippets about the production. It's a cracking piece, glorious score and Britten's dramatic pacing is as sharp as anywhere else in his output. "Ha-a-appy ..."

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland & the BBCSSO are both doing the Sinfonia da Requiem about a month & a half apart.

I've just bought a Britten 50p coin from the Royal Mint. Heaven knows what I'll do with it, but I wanted it, and since I just about never see a new coin in circulation I've bought the cheapest presentation version (£8). In any case, it isn't in circulation yet. Extravagant people, or those who think it might be an investment, can get it in 22 carat gold for £800!

Did anyone happen to record Britten conducting the Hebrides Overture (a live recording I believe from the festival one year) broadcast during the centenary weekend? I thought it quite remarkable how a very familiar work could sound so 'new'. Lots of detail, inner parts and harmony I'd never before noticed, and structurally brilliant.
