    Arthur Wood

Like his namesake, Haydn Wood, Arthur Wood was a Yorkshireman, being born in Heckmondwike, but later moving to Harrogate. Although immortalised as the man who wrote Barwick Green (The Archers tune) I would love to hear his Yorkshire Moors Suite, as I live close to this area.

He was a conductor of London theatre orchestras for many years.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

For years, I wondered how the Archers theme tune continued. Then someone gave me a CD with the whole thing on. No real revelations, but interesting nevertheless.

My Cocker Spaniel Hector howls along to the Archers themetune - including a key change!
