    Your most desired musical post

Following on from news of the Gunter Wand Conducting Chair, what would be the post, real or imagined, that you would most like to hold ?

Back in the orchestral hire library where i was for about five years when very young. Wonderful colleagues, many of whom are still my friends, all the librarians and conductors of those days coming in.

Five pounds a week, long hours, but much more interesting than the publishing etc that came later. Oh I'd have to be eighteen again to do it .

My own dream post would be more modest: assistant curator of Music manuscripts in the National Library of Wales. Just to live on that coast!

A composer in residence with some orchestra/ensemble, as it would give me the opportunity of hearing what my compositions actually sound like and hopefully encourage me to compose more frequently.

If I couldn't be music director of the LPO maybe I'd settle for principal timpanist in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

The LPO has had a varied past with their directors, Alison. Wasn't 'Flick-knife Fleishmann' one of theirs?

Or was it Thomas Russell ?? Or both?

And think of the thumping feet above you if you played at the ROH - so I'm told by an ex-player, [when the ballet was programmed.]
