On a whim, I googled ‘Armstrong music’. I was surprised at the wealth of musical talent among Armstrongs. Here’s a sample from just the first two pages.
There are stores by that name in British Columbia and Maryland (“all you need to rock”). There’s an Armstrong Community Music School (and Lutheran church) in Austin, Texas.
There’s the Armstrong Metalfest (formerly Armstrong Open Air - you can see why they changed the name), “inspired by the summer outdoor Metalfest circuit in Europe”. This one’s in Canada; in its first year “it drew about 300 people out to see 11 Okangan metal bands rip up the stage”. Certainly beats promming.
By contrast, there’s the Armstrong Woods Old Grove Festival in California “a unique experience and a rare opportunity” (unlike either of those phrases) “to listen to great music in a magical setting…the Redwood Theater, which consists of rows upon rows of wooden benches and of course is surrounded by large redwoods…The atmosphere is very laid back [and] the venue is so large that it is possible to hang out in the back and just lie down on a bench to look up at tree tops and stars while listening to the music”. Sort of brings back memories of the 60s, doesn’t it?
Then there’s the artists. Jor’dan Arms*trong seemingly writes his own stuff (though his proof-reading’s evidently not too hot) and he’s intriguingly versatile. “Bring the Jesus, Fashion & Beatz tour to your city today!” Quite.
Cort Armstrong, too. His website is “the Internet headquarters of chicken pickin’ music. You’ll find information here regarding what Cort and his music are all about, and you’ll find links to audio, video and other publicity materials, in case you are promoting a Cort Armstrong performance, or just want a full-color poster of Cort on your wall (yes, go ahead!)”. Yes, go ahead! I dare you!
“British singer-songwriter Jen Armstrong has been writing and performing music since the age of 12” (about January last year I’d say, from her picture)…”Jen's weapon of choice is piano which means the odd pop ballad is thrown in for good measure, giving her music true power grabbing style!” ‘Weapon of choice?’ We’ll be calling for Armstong Limitation Talks next.
Randy Armstrong is certainly versatile. He’s co-founder of Do’a World Music Ensemble and Unu Mondo, and has “a collection of over two hundred instruments…including acoustic, synthesizer and nylon-string guitars, sitar, balofon, djembe, koto, charango, mbira and a wide variety of percussion and stringed instruments.
Michael Armstrong is a Brit. In fact, he is brickie, but is also “an exciting new British talent, unashamedly raw, emotional and direct. On the outside are his trademark sparkly eyes, cheeky builder smile and bravado and on the inside is a sensitive and tender song smith…This young man is a star in the making and the building work may have to take a back seat for a while!” His magnum opus is “a special Chelsea FC song, which is in fact an alternate version of his current debut single 'Paler Shade of Blue', featuring the Eastern Blues Official Chelsea Supporters Club. The song celebrates the team's recent Champions League win and welcomes the start of the new season. It is dedicated to Chelsea supporters everywhere! The song is called 'The Colour is Blue 2012' and it has an easy chorus and chant that is sure to echo through the stands of Stamford Bridge very shortly!” Good on yer, yer cheeky builder!
