Personally, I'm beginning to like Mr Cheese's style. And his subjects are interesting. I'm tempted to find out more about Monn, for sure. I recommend the last couple of links as amusing and informative.

Personally I prefer Monn to be Monn and Schoenberg Schoenberg. There's a nice recording of the original version on the CPO label together with some other concertos by Monn.

One of the challenges I set myself in writing Wheels of Cheese was that I would attempt to come at the pieces I was going to listen to with naught but a cursory glance at the title of the piece, eschewing the addictive activity of poring over liner notes and the vasty vasty fields of secondary texts that propagate outwards around any piece of work. I was to approach each piece as a newborn baby, rolling its way towards an electric heater, soon to find out the difference between good and, well, not so much... Wheels of Cheese #12 - out now

I like your log. I especially like the reviews of the Du Pre recordings. You are the first person besides myself that Ihave seen refer to Robert Schumann as "Bobby S".

Thanks to everyone for their positive feedback - new to this whole thing so just doing my darndest not to appear a fool. And I must say, I like being referred to as Mr Cheese. Very Butlins.

I have, like most thinking people, always attempted to live my life based on two Jewish jokes. In the first, a Jewish man who is down on his luck, gets down on his knees and prays to God – ‘Please, I have never asked for much, but I am in a terrible financial situation! Please Lord, I need you to do one thing – please allow me to win the lottery! If you do this for me I will live a life of complete devotion to You – I will make even the most devout of Your servants look careless in the practice of their devotions!‘... Second Jewish joke should have ended with Rabbi saying: Job done! - Loved the first joke! Thanks for brightening up a dull Monday morning.

What were you doing when you were seventeen?

Jacqueline du Pre was recording Bach's Cello Suites. M activities were less edifying. Wheels of Cheese #24 is out now. Warning - it's a bit rude.

I almost fell off my chair laughing. Keep them coming, Mr Cheese, s'il vous plaît.

PS Tangentially, on the subject of Daniel Barenboim, his Desert Island Discs (with Sue Lawley) and now available on the DoD Archive is a great listen, not least his imitation of Sir Clifford Curzon

Almost deafening silence . . . too shocked and/or traumatized?
