          Hi Flay

Not sure - I checked when i opened the thread to see if anyone objected, and got a positive response, then and since. However, I also decided if anyone thought it was, I would quietly withdraw, which I shall now do.

          All the best

          Pete

You make me feel guilty now. I'll leave it for others to give their opinions.

Not sure what the accepted definition of spam is, but for me it's unwanted trash in which I have no interest that is (usually) trying to sell me something.

In this case, I am interested, I have enjoyed some of the comments on the blog and they are relevant to the general subject matter of this particular forum. Whilst I agree that sometimes Mr Cheese goes on a bit, I think he's quite an engaging writer.

So I wouldn't regard it as spam.

But I would also like him, if he can, to contribute to the MBs wider topics.

              S-S!

I did indicate in my Msg #3 that it was fine to post here since it does relate to Radio 3's classical music remit. The thread title is clear and regulars who aren't interested don't have to read the thread or the blog (I usually take a peek). I did, though, hint that a wider contribution than just posting a link to another website would be appreciated - in other words joining our community.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thanks, ff. I agree that he should also contribute, not just post links.

So that's all three of us agreed, then. And in such a brief space of time! Is this a record?

Could this be a 'CeeDee' compromise as there remains a degree of self-promotion that is alien to these boards?

I subscribed to "Gramophone" from 1980 to 2000 approx., then stopped. Is it worth subscribing to these days? Also used to subscribe to "Fanfare", and that was an excellent magazine.

The best you can do is plough through the thread dedicated to the worthy journal - which has currently logged up 342 messages. You should get a fair idea of the views, with some interesting suggestions.

(It might be best to start reading back from the end - the thread was started rather a long time ago and bits will be out of date.)

                            Hi all

Thanks for the discussion - really appreciate it. Yes, I should be contributing more widely and will - just find myself getting overly fascinated and reading endless posts without dipping my oar in. Must try harder! But still happy to stand by what I said earlier - if it still feels a bit spammy I'll desist without quarrel.

That said, there's a new post up. Link in previous missives :-)

Right, off to have a natter elsewhere.

                            Cheers

                            Pete

I've nattered, and now I'm quietly mentioning a new post - Jacqueling du Pre plays Dvorak and Schumann. It's a plea for sanity!

If you know nothing about Georg Matthias Monn, my latest post will do little to clear things up...
