Is he a gurner? The only concert I've seen was a prom, and the pained expressions were to be seen on the sofa at home due to the litres of perspiration cascading from the poor bloke in pitiless HD close-ups on the TV...

Didn't he gurn a lot at Leeds? Perhaps I'm being unfair.

Two British works from Russia, though if anyone expects carbon copies of Boult or Barbirolli, they'd better not click the links! ... These English works are conducted by Valeriy Platonov with a strong Russian accent and it could be that many will find them particularly interesting for that very reason. After all, British conductors and orchestras don't play Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich as carbon-copies of Russian performances.

The Chinese piano prodigy takes no prisoners. She embraces Brahms and Beethoven as fiercely as she defends her right to wear what she likes

Britten rehearsing the War Requiem - not a continuous sequence, but still interesting I thought

In January of 1963 Britten's War Requiem was recorded by Decca with Britten as conductor. The orchestra was the London Symphony with soloists Galina Vishnev...
