Best heard on the Toshiba 1400 series reissue (14088, but I would say that wouldn't I)... Almost forgotten these days after his tragic early death, Eduardo Mata with the Dallas SO is marvellous, first on Navigator, palpable improvements on RCA Sound Dimension 24/96. It may still be out there somewhere...
Did anyone else get the Manuel Rosenthal box on Accord? Very good, very French Daphnis in there too, with the Orchestra of the Paris Opera...

Paying homage to the centenary now. Orchestre National de Lyon/Jun Märkl.
It's been said before, but this may be the most magnificently orchestrated work in the repertoire. So many wonderful effects throughout the work. My particular favourite is the flickering light portrayed by tremolo strings (at the beginning of track 8 on this recording)

Still my only CD with the complete work.
The interpretation as well as recording are amazing indeed.

PS - great used prices

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
