I don't think I could have imagined this conversation back in 1977 when I was listening "rip her to shreds". !!

Plenty of odd time signatures in prog rock music. There are one or two in the Yes classic Gates of Delerium.

Brubeck himself wrote that one. Love that dance!

In fact, that whole album is wonderful... it goes in order from 3/4 to 9/4, with Unsquare Dance fitting in right near the end.

When do we get to discuss Genesis?

And yes, it is in the "original" HIPP Westminster version.
                    Maybe - but - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_Quarters

Depends how the clock or the chime goes I suppose. Anyone timed it?

Well I'm surprised with so many musical polymaths on the thread that nobody has mentioned "Living in the Past" by Jethro Tull, which to my untutored ear is in 5/4 time. QUite surprising that this Brubeck inspired tune was almost a number 1 in the "hit parade" but perhaps even pop listeners were more sophisticated in 1968!

There is a recording on that wiki entry - it's 5/4, it's been notated incorrectly that's all.

My votes are for the Dave Brubeck 'Take Five" and Mars from The Planets.

I would rank the most famous 5/4 tunes in the following order:
                                1. Westminster Chimes
                                2. Mission Impossible
                                3. Take 5
                                4. Mars
