To do this survey properly it would be necessary to count all the hours spent in preparation and rehearsal, since time spent on the platform is only one part of a conductor's activities. As it is, it means very little, like all these lists.

I expect the comment in the linked article about Gergiev could well be correct. Who else would even think of doing Mahler 8, Verdi Requiem, and a couple of operas (Turandot and Khovanshina) all in one week - which he has done in the past? [24th-27th November, 2004]

Some of his work is very good, but maybe not all of it!
