Would that make the sons of J S Bach "chips off the old block", then?

I'm no slouch in terms of my respect for Tippett, incidentally.
I know; and since posting my essay (!) I've read your fascinating (re Britten's ambivalence to Tippett) response to jayne lee on the "Post 1945 Symphony" thread. I seem to remember an earlier Tippett thread (perhaps on the old BBC MBs) where people contributed their "nominations" for "least favourite/successful piece by Tippett" and everyone had very different views. My own "unfavourites" are The Vision of St Augustine, the Songs of Dov and The Mask of Time - the first of which you cite as a work you admire. Such is the rich tapestry. My own defence of New Year was in reaction to the seemingly unanimous negative comments to a work which I think is considerably undervalued - and not meant as showing any personal disrespect towards anyone expressing those "negative" views.

    Best Wishes.

We all have to have a pee every now and then, I know, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Mr of that ilk has to be "in us all", you know! Anyway, what's Shadowtime got to do with this?

Perish the thought. I had to do that on Saturday evening after two pints too many of Summer Lightning.

Had I consumed (or rather attempted to consume) so much as a mouthful of that stuff, my inner Mr Pee wouldn't have stood a chance against my ditto Herr Blech - or at least I assume this to be the case, deducing as I do (from my position of self-confessed general ignorance of the subject) that the said stuff is a beer of some kind.
