Dug out the lps but they are not the original Saga pressings having been made in Germany and they contain only the two books of preludes. The original UK pressings were as was usual with Saga of execrable quality. The actual piano sound is reasonably good though and the performances justifiably celebrated.

The first 4 discs of my 6 LP boxed set were also pressed in "Germany", the last 2 being pressed in "W. Germany".

For illustration only. My set is not for sale.

Great favourites here in Casa Pulcinella.
I bought the CDs years ago from a rather scruffy shop in Charing Cross Road. I think that all the main works are on the four discs. I've checked against the Bavouzet set and he does include a few rarities such as the Ballade Slave. The fourth CD is admittedly short measure, just the Preludes Book 2, but I'm not complaining since i got all four CDs for a fiver! Fine performances.

Sorry Bryn, I must be bonkers this morning! Fancy not noticing the missing Estampes and the other items! I could have sworn that she recorded them. I'll have to go back to Moravec's performance.

She recorded them for Saga alright, and they were on the LPs but not on the CDs in the 4 disc set. Once I eventually get round to rewiring the phono cabling from my Thorens turntable (currently the skimpy lead that came installed on it) I must have a go at digitising the missing items. 'till then Planès and many others will have to suffice. Ity should be noted that the CNR 4 CD set compriosing Saga recordings is titled "DEBUSSY PIANO WORKS VOL. 1-4", not "DEBUSSY COMPLETE SOLO PIANO MUSIC" as was the case with the Saga 6 LP set.

That's the one...I remember having it, but I wonder why it is no longer in my collection...maybe someone 'borrowed' it! I too remember it being a lovely set.

Just found mine, and am spending a pre-bed hour with the first disc now. As fine as I remember it.
