I would like to defend the Bruch No 1 in G minor as a very fine concerto, and a great piece of music. Making references to chocolate does nothing for this music, which speaks straight from the heart.
Because it may have become popular does not alter the music. We have to listen with trained ears and contemplate this work as it is. It is nothing more or less. And it may well have suffered from slushy over-sentimentalised performances, which are unfortunately the ones I most often hear.
