    Another meaningless list

The cover of the August 2023 issue of BBC Music Magazine heralds:

The 25 Greatest British Composers of all time

As chosen by 167 of the world's finest musicians.

Turn to p38 to see who they voted for.

I can scarcely contain my excitement but won't spoil the fun by telling you.

I shudder to think. I am out walking, at the moment, but the magazine might, I suppose, be there when I get back home.

I've not seen it yet and won't want to when BBC MM arrives but why they do these things I have less than no idea, but it is becoming something of a habit in various quarters, not only BBC MM; Classic FM seems to thrive on them...

I'd like to make a list of "the 25 worst classical music magazines". BBC MM would be right up there, for its high quotient of brainless articles, inane reviews and bandwagon social politics.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't along the lines of that notorious film poll, in that the so called 167 finest musicians will have been told to select from a list specifically to fit in with R3s current policy.
