    Grace Bumbry, the first black singer to perform Wagner at Bayreuth, died on 7 May 2023.

    It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

        Lovely voice; I think she recorded Messiah with Sir Adrian Boult back in 1962.
