Thanks again, SC! I could have added some of the neglected French composers I've always had a thing about, but I might be accused of special pleading. At least Jolivet is in there. But no Hilding Rosenberg, rightly considered the first Swedish modernist (as Wiki says!) and, from the little I've ever heard of his music (2 works!), an important uncompromising voice who truly deserves a COTW of his own. And there's his contemporary, the Dane Niels Viggo Bentzon. of whose music I have heard zilch on Radio 3. We don't seem to get far beyond Greig, Sibelius and Nielsen when it comes to Scandi composers - though possibly excepting the wonderful Kaija Saariaho, and of course Magnus Lindberg, whose music seems now to have forsaken his early radicalism.

There is a lot of Rosenberg’s music available to stream , S-A . I have just lined up the complete string quartets ( 12 and a bit of them) to dip into.
Not sure I have heard any of his music.

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Thanks very much, teamsaint. I'll look out for any youtube links for Rosenberg, but frankly I'm now more interested in his getting known through exposure to the classical listenership. If I do find anything by him (or Bentzon for that matter) that is crying out for broadcasting, I'll let the forum know of it.

Well as promised, I am dipping into the SQs, and a very good find they are. Have run through 2 and now on #3.

I would definitely recommend a listen. I am struggling to find very much to read about him, so will just have to listen.

Thanks for the tip. You can’t have enough good string quartets in your life !!

Just to let you know that the 2023 survey is running a little behind, but should be ready later next month. Have had quite a traumatic 2023, so had to pause for a while.

Welcome back, Suffy. Sorry to hear things have been rough for you. Take your time with the survey - we'll be grateful whenever it arrives.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
