When do you actually listen to radio 3

Long ago I was a constant listener but now I have to fit in House husband duties and childcare, sometimes during the day I can listen in the kitchen, after evening meal when I clean and tidy and sometimes via my digital tv when I find nothing is on tv. I really need to get an Ariel for my CD player which has a tuner option.

I used to always look forward to the evening concert followed by free thinking or night waves.

Now I no longer have a bedside radio and the wife prefers to listen to radio 4 anyway.

Does your partner enjoy radio 3 as well ? That must make listening easier ?

Always in the motor car since our 2019 Corsa doesn’t have a CD player. Usually the first I do when I wake is to turn on the radio and it’s ALWAYS on for Record Review with Andrew McGregor on Saturday morning. ( Mind you, if I’ve just finished a night shift I usually fall asleep).

Lounging under my new electric throw blanket listening via my smart tv. Wife reading son stories, he having a late bedtime today. Mmm I must experiment with integrating a radio 3 addiction back into my life.

Very little live (linear) radio. Occasionally listen in the car. Most listening is by catch-up on BBC Sounds.

          Never.

There has been no time when I listened to it very much, even in the car, occasionally I’d tune into Building a Library but that’s about it. But since, let’s say, since 2000, with the growth of internet music, Radio 3 has become a total irrelevance for me. Same for other music radio like Classic FM and France Musique.

Whenever I'm around to listen, unless it's something I don't want to hear. Goes on when I come down in the morning, and I'll check the schedule when I do my emails - the listing from the local rag weekend supplement is basic, just time and programme name, so I'll make a note of anything I especially want to hear.

4 to 4.30 am. then only when there is a particular performance I want to hear (sadly, less and less in these dumbed-down days).

My other half does not like Radio 3, nor classical music, nor The Archers, nor even Woman's Hour. Nonetheless, we have been happply married for nearly 38 years.

My bedside DAB radio plays Radio 3 whenever I'm in the bedroom, as early as 10 pm and as late as 8am, but at a low volume. Breakfast is usually enjoyable.

The only programmes I make a point of listening to are New Music Show and Freeness, via BBC Sounds.

Oh, and while I remember, there's an interview with Kaija Saariaho in the New Year that I want to hear -Music Matters.

I listen to Radio 3 at various times, though usually after the event, and via BBC Sounds, far less frequently 'live' via DAB, FM or Freeview, these days.

I try to listen to Record Review later on in the week - usually on my headphones whilst my partner is watching TV. He likes some classical music, but not all, so bearing in mind we share the same living room, the headphones have proved to be a very satisfactory compromise!

From about 09.30 to 21.30 every day. Usually as a background to working or reading, There are certain “lacunae” on Saturdays when I reach for an opera or Mahler . It has struck that I get poor value from my Qobuz subscription.

Used to be most mornings and late evenings - but not since they've re-modelled all the programmes-they mostly irritate me now - so it's maybe the odd concert during the day

Nice cello music this morning while I making my sons breakfast, buildinga a library on now. I did get a few cds initially before deciding to mainly stick with radio listening. Have a boxed set of bruckners symphonies and pick up the odd cd from charity shops.

Curiously slightly more so now than in recent years - following the purchase of a Denon CD/DAB/FM radio requested for use in the kitchen as a Christmas present by the official cook, and recommended elsewhere in these parts, so now I am tending to listen more when eating or having cups of coffee. However it's early days yet. At least R3 is on the presets, battling it out with R4 and ClassicFM. I may find a way to get a digital feed from other sources.

The one thing I noticed - back listening to "live" linear radio - was the occasional drop out - though in fairness that was probably as much due to my quick and dirty attachment of the provided wire aerial. It really does need a proper aerial somewhere, but getting an aerial fitted and cable routed around the house could easily cost almost as much as the radio unit itself, something I also noted with our TVs. I am nevertheless surprised that it works at all!

I have improved the aerial slightly by pinning it to the wall with drawing pins!

Remind me again in a few months.
