Radio 3 during the period of National Mourning

anything would be better and more appropriate than uninformed 'discussion' on all channels

I've just gone to BBC Sounds instead of the uninformed discussion, Frances.

Won’t we have ten days of it starting tomorrow?

They've all been polishing their scripts for twenty years.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

            Train strike won’t apparently.

I've some 1500 cds 'parked' on one of my computers so no problem in that respect - except I tuned in for the Beethoven (the 1st part + interval nonsense had no attraction) then found R3 was taking R4 with it seems a slight delay.

I guess the end of a era - not really looking forward to the next - personally I'd prefer to skip a generation if we still need to keep it.

My guess is that given LNOTP is as much a national institution as the monarchy, it will.

In one sense it would be a mark of continuity, as in: "The King is dead; long live the King." Though some of the jollity might be a bit muted it being only two days after the event. I'm sure the BBC will have everything in hand, though there may be some panicking behind the scenes

When Diana died didn't R3 play suitable music all day?

I think Radio 3 played solemn music for at least four days - maybe longer - after the death of Prince Philip.

We were slightly irritated that 'The Chase' was not on, which is when we have tea. After which I go upstairs.

So mild irritation is the extent of my solemnity.

CBeebies is playing Calming Music - the sound of raindrops to help your little one to get to sleep. That seems to be the only alternative to the BBC News Special Part Two.

UKTV channels appear not to be broadcasting advertisements in the intervals within and between programmes, just a distorted soundscape and a fixed image.

According to the RAH website tonight's Prom was cancelled altogether (as well as its broadcast). Since it included the Eroica Symphony it's hard to imagine a more appropriate work to play on such an evening, but there we go. A friend went to the concert, and apparently the orchestra came on to the stage and played the National Anthem and Nimrod. Not sure if there was anything else apart from a long silence. Was anybody else there?

As a comparison, reports suggest hat the Arcade Fire concert at the o2 Arena went ahead as planned.

It looks as if the BBC News Special continues uninterrupted on Radio 3 until 6:00 tomorrow morning, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's extended beyond that.
