Many thanks for posting both of these.
Sent to friends in Rome who will be interpreting on radio and TV there: very gratefully received!

At present (11.45 a.m.) Radios 2,3 &4 are broadcasting the funeral. Radios 1 and 6 are playing pop music (at least what I call pop).

I think this shows a poor attitude of the BBC towards Radio3. Surely one channel is enough for the funeral broadcast , probably Radio4. The fact that 1 and 6 are considered exempt from having to comply suggests that they are so important they cannot be tampered with. It's a continuation of the policy that says R3 has to be 'without barriers' and play pop but R1 &2 mustn't be expected to play classical.

      Bad show old boy.

But Radios 1 and 6 are for what Tom Lehrer referred to as "children's music" and I would assume the powers the be and the Beeb consider their demographic to be less susceptible to cap-doffing and other fawning behaviour towards a hereditary monarchy and its trapping.

5 and BBC local radio covering the funeral also. I think it was the wrong decision for 1 and 6 not to have covered it also, maybe they thought that they’d lose listeners to the commercial stations although it looks as though many of the commercial stations eg Global are broadcasting the funeral.

If I heard correctly, there was a lovely slip in the prayer read by the Bishop of London.
            Instead of
endue them with thy Holy Spirit,
            we got
endure them with thy Holy Spirit.

Would that be Chartreuse? If so, which one, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chartreuse_(liqueur)

I heard that too. Won't be the best memory of the day for the individual concerned? Never mind at least no-one seems to have got Queen and King muddled up which really would be a clanger, if understandable after 70 years...

Don’t be cruel Pulc - just because she’s in a high position in the high church give her the benefit of being human and susceptible to the stress of the situation. She was addressing a large number in the Abbey and a few million more on TV, radio and big screens in many other places across the globe!

Have you never made a blooper and that hole wasn’t available for you to hide?

Far too much emphasis on military display.

When I was looking at the schedule last night I thought I saw that Danielle J was going to be the R3 voice of proceedings, so was a bit surprised to hear a male voice. Did I imagine things or was that a last minute change?

On a very much lighter note - some relief!

I hope there were plenty of loos for the congregation and that they thought on to go steady on the tea/coffee at breakfast! Some of them were there for a good while!

I'm rather disappointed that we don't get to hear the organ music before either service. TV, not surprisingly, is concentrating on the visual spectacle and the accompanying processional band music, but I would have thought that those of us on this "home of classical music" might have been allowed a share of the preliminary aural offering - does anyone know why it isn't being broadcast?

Maybe R3 could have simply transmitted the whole thing, without commentary. Rather like we get the whole of the King's Christmas service in the repeat on R3 (do we, I now wonder; is there preliminary music there too?) whereas R4 cuts off before the final voluntary.

Bravo! On thread . Yes a red button feed of what looked like a feast of British organ music would have been most welcome. As it was I thought the music was magnificent throughout. I have however reached peak Walch / Beethoven (?) Funeral March. The Chopin Marcia Funebre doesn’t work at 75 bpm but the Beethoven Op 26 more or less does.

I think part at least of the disgruntlement is to do with the reason for disruption of the schedules. If one is indifferent to or actively against the monarchy then blanket coverage is distasteful or anger-inducing. Bit like back in the day when there used to be music on BBC, and the end of eg Cardiff Singer of the World would be cut off to go to some inane trailer and the next essential bit of entertainment, whereas if a sports fixture over-runs it is allowed to do so, even if it means dumping the next programme. I dislike that because I have no interest in the programmes that are considered to have priority, indeed might consider them unnecessary/undesirable.
