Yea the same thing happened during the period of mourning for Prince Philip and several forumites commented on how much they liked it . A lovely performance of RVW 5 earlier this on from Andrew Davis and the BBC SO earlier.
As I write the National Anthem from last night’s unbroadcast Prom strikes up …

I've found the Radio 3 broadcasts over the last 24 or so hours dignified, appropriate and solemn. I hesitate to use the word "enjoyed" under the circumstances, but I have enjoyed listening to these poignant pieces of music.

I'm with you on "enjoying" not seeming quite right , but I have very much appreciated both the music and the style of presentation. The time line of the roll call of composers brings home vividly just what 70 years on the throne and 96 years a royal means.

And where we've come from and where we are.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

You have to wonder how its all going over on R1……

Whatever, it is hard to believe that a sensitive monarch would really want wholesale cancellation of events, that often entail lots of hard work and commitment , during the “period of mourning.” An opportunity to pay respects at each event is surely as much as is needed ?

Allow people paid time off to observe the funeral and let normal life, well as normal as you can get these days, go on, is how it ought to go IMHO. Probably not a popular view.

                I completely agree. An illustration:

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Who would have ordered this? Not I assume the monarch or Buck Palace. Self-imposed ordinances?

There is guidance from Government pretty well leaving it up to organisations of business and sporting events to act as they seem fit.

Guidance for the public and businesses on the period of National Mourning following the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Interesting Q&A insight here from the current announcer:

Impressive (after a long stint as an excellent contributor to ITV News coverage today - which coverage incidentally mopped the floor with the BBC News version imvvho)
"...the isle is full of noises,

One positive outcome of the recent personnel changes at the top of the Royal Family is that for the past few days, nothing negative appears to have happened otherwise. Indeed, nothing else at all appears to have occurred throughout the world. Oh, not quite. Both Ukraine and Russia report some territorial regain by the Ukrainian armed forces but that's it.

Parliament will not sit for some two weeks - no scrutiny of the action needed on energy-price driven inflation - yet another indication that our politics is broken.
As for the Beeb - I guess talking heads cost little (their value seems to be negligible) and like North Korea we can keep the populace in ignorance of the rest of World affairs - the whole response is totally OTT

Will be interesting to read the next issue of 'Private Eye' and see what they make of this saturation media coverage.
I suspect there will be plenty of O.B.N. awards.

Maybe this is a better way to do it, for the start of the new ice hockey season:
