That reminds me of the last funeral I attended where the talky tribute bit was followed by Gracie Fields singing "Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye".
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

My cousin's husband had been a pilot. As we entered the Crematorium we had "I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane" and as we walked out it was "The Great Escape".

the sheer number of canting religious + even worse journalists dug out of the woodwork amazes me - just for once maybe Truss is correct - the southern part of the UK needs a great shakeup

ETA just seen that R4 returns to some normality late afternoon - guess typical of the new R3 that its normality returns at midnight with happy harmonies or similar.

Why is the Royal Standard on King Charles's limo not at half mast?

I have found the sequences of music no worse and sometimes preferable to the usual output of Radio 3.

Because the Royal Standard never flies at half mast as there is always a Sovereign.

Indeed. Hence the whistle icon. The allusion was to the farce over flags when Dianna was killed in that car crash.

Not very good on emojis - that must have been the only time the arcane protocol over flag flying at Royal residences was not just a headline in the Sun but the subject of newspaper editorials !

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                        from: https://www.gov.uk/government/public...rning-guidance

                        Flags

Flags flying from Royal residences, government buildings and military establishments have been half-masted following the demise of Her Majesty.

Businesses or other organisations wishing to pay their respects by half-masting flags or holding silences can follow the guidance that has been issued on GOV.UK.
Note, no mention of the exception for the Royal Standard.

It seems, according to the link posted by Bryn, that cancelling sporting fixtures is not obligatory, and indeed some have gone ahead since yesterday with perhaps even some round here in attendance.

To be honest, I’m enjoying the programming far more than much of the usual fare - just music, simply announced and free of presenter/personality-driven gimmicky cr@p…

Radio 3 during the period of National Mourning

Amidst the sadness and shock at the passing of the Queen, one thing which I have been unexpectedly enjoying is the change to the programming on R3. No chat, no "presentation", no (or very few) bleeding chunks - just complete works, and announcers who say what's just been played and what's next, and then get out of the way. It's as though R3 has gone back to the way it was 50 years ago.
