    Yes, this is very sad news. I haven't followed his career too closely but I remember him from his work with the Ryedale Festival during the 1980s.

      I have these two Chandos CDs of works by Gregson, conducted by Tovey:



      Very enjoyable, and recommended (as indeed are the other two volumes of concertos).

        He was about to take over the Sarasota Symphony, which only gives a few concerts a year but is surprisingly good (I attended a concert pre Covid while on Holiday that featured Neeme Jaarvi conducting). He also was active in Rhode Island, my wife's home state, and I heard him lead an ensemble outdoors at a Festival in Newport a few years back. I was wondering if the Sarasota ensemble was planning to expand to become a more stable ensemble

          A couple of the Henry Wood arrangements that Tovey conducted during the 2019 Proms season have already been uploaded in the "YouTube interesting video links" thread. Here is another and very entertaining it is too, with the castanets player having his work cut out ... :) ...
