As well as Captain Noah & his Floating Zoo, Horovitz's musical humour resulted in celebrated contributions to the Hoffnung Music Festivals: Metamorphosis on a Bedtime Theme (1956) and Horrortorio1961.

From Composer of the Week, I think it was, a few years ago now, I discovered that Horowitz was more than the cheery lightweight as represented by Captain Noah. Was he not twinned with Malcolm Arnold? Certainly compared, from what I recall. I inherited my copy of Captain Noah from my father - a version by the Kings Singers from 1972, with the composer at the piano and, as happens, my dear friend Daryl Runswick on the upright bass. Daryl will be very sad to hear of his passing.
