Master classes and the approach taken by the Master in question vary widely and I wonder how much the students actually take away from the experience. For example Leon Fleisher with a student studying Kreisleriana, is equal part philosophy and interpretative ideas whereas one Brendel class was much more concerned with the actual playing, needless to say every student has what seems to me technique to die for. Andras Schiff and Murray Perahia take quite different and both are fascinating for the insights into the playing of passages in works that I thought I knew quite well.

A rather different sort of masterclass. One that should make a fine preparation for the Cafe OTO event this coming Saturday. Here's hoping Eddie recovers from his current bout of COVID-19 in time.
