This article from the Grauniad gives a potentially "useful" list of current pop groups. Might be useful if any of us ever get on to Geriatrics University Challenge! [apologies to anyone under 40.]
It mentions groups I didn't know existed, and obviously Gordon Brown's "favourite" Arctic Monkeys are long gone. There are a few longstanding ones I have heard of - Kings of Leon, Fleetwood Mac - but others such as the Killers, Little Mix, Rudimental, Wolf Alice ... and others listed in the article are unknown to and by me, and will probably remain so.
So I offer this link for any politician with an imminent call to Desert Island Discs - but make a suggestion - "Choose one group mentioned in the article, listen to some of their output, remember the names of some of them, and have at least one reason why you like one or two of them" .... Also remember, by next year the world will have moved on.
The trends about tastes and how the commercialism around pop music are changing - perhaps due to social media are also of some slight interest.
