I have just discovered, via the Gramophone website, that the conductor and pianist Steuart Bedford died on 15 Feb aged 81. He was, of course, particularly associated with the music of Benjamin Britten, and gave first performances of Death in Venice and Phaedra towards the end of Britten's life when the composer's illness prevented him from conducting himself. He also recorded, as pianist and conductor, many of Britten's vocal works and conducted other operas across the world. He will be missed.
RIP Steuart
