    Armin Jordan

I was sent an advertising/promotion email from am.uk - which shows an Icon box set of recordings by Armin Jordan. I really don't know much about this conductor at all. Is this worth investigating further?

I have his Schumann syms on Erato and wouldn't hesitate. Wasn't he the conductor in the film of Parsifal?

That Parsifal DVD is the only recording I have of his. I remember having difficulty obtaining it and eventually got it from jpc in Germany. Well worth seeking out and probably essential for keen Wagnerites. Strangely, you also get to see Armin J in the film acting out the role of Amfortas, which is sung on the soundtrack by Wolfgang Schöne. Surely a unique instance of the conductor of an opera also portraying one of the main characters. I like Rainer Goldberg in the title role. We saw him do it live in concert performance. An actor mouths his singing in the film but the excellent Robert Lloyd who plays my verbose namesake also appears as Gurnemanz in the film.

I couldn't find an Icon box - but I did find this - which might be of interest - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Conductor-P...9150290&sr=8-1

Also doing a search for Paul Kletzki shows up a few others - such as Nielsen 5 on Eloquence - https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Paul+Kl...f=nb_sb_noss_2

Just noticed this one, which is similar to one of the boxes above - Paul Paray - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Technical-B...9150661&sr=8-1

The cover is "interesting" - was Paray trying to outdo Einstein?

I see the only two Kletzi recordings I have are on that Documents box - the famous Chopin First with Pollini and a fine version of Beethoven Romances with Johanna Martzy. It looks a bit tempting but I will probably restrain myself.

Back to Armin Jordan. I remember being a click away from getting the Icon Box a few years ago. Interesting French repertoire, much of it less familiar, including some gaps for me which I have in the meantime plugged from elsewhere: An excellent brand new disc of Le Chasseur Maudit, Psyché (full version), Les Éolides, from RNSO with Jean-Luc Tingaud.

Some more recent ICON boxes have been driven by Erato rather than EMI issues! Some eg Martinon are a mix of ththe two!
