Similar concerns apply to photography. Nature photography and landscapes are sometimes said to be 99% by “god” and 1% by the photographer, rather than some more “creative” images in which the photographer actively manipulates elements for the end result, and at possibly different stages - before clicking the shutter, or in post production.

Thanks for flagging that up! I didn't realise it was being broadcast this weekend. (And I'm not at all sure what the Leeds material is, so I shall have to tune in myself!)

The technique invented by Nakamura, for those who don't know, consists principally of connecting a mixer to itself so as to create feedback loops, which can then be controlled (to a certain extent) using the faders and other controls of the mixer. Many creative musicians have subsequently become interested in this instrument, but Nakamura remains its most imaginative exponent as far as I'm concerned.
Seems a slightly tricky technique. Described in perhaps more detail here - https://youtu.be/oUhfkaVUPY8

I wonder if the players tend most often to have more fun than listeners.

There are several additional informative links available for anyone who wants to take this further, but this appears to have enough to get started.

                Clangers anyone?!

Not sure if this kind of no input mixer technique will work with “virtual” mixers - implemented in software systems such as vcvrack.

Pity they didn't choose to broadcast Richard's outsider... ah well.

Hopefully, they are holding it back for a later programme.

                          Yes, let's hope so.

Near the end of Flechtwerk now. Such a fantastic piece (I hadn't listened to it before) and fantastically played here.

Carl Rosman is something of a miracle worker with single reeds.
