OK. I'll check out the sessions mentioned in post 203 as well, then - where there would appear to be improvisation taking place "in real time" - but I've not clicked on play yet!

You are undermining my crass attempt to get readers to download the album concerned.

I think I listened to all of it just by clicking on the tracks on the Bandcamp site. Perhaps that's not what you intended - but thank you anyway.

I took up this issue of being able to listen to Lo-Fi streams of her recent Bandcamp release with Tania Chen. She checked and found that, in her case, Bandcamp allowed up to 3 complete streamings in advance of purchase. In Richard's case, the drop in audio quality is likely to be rather greater than usual, in that the lossless downloads offer 48kHz sampling and 24-bit quantization, whereas the 'free' sample stream is, at best, 128kbps lossy data compressed, i.e at most, a twelfth of the data rate of even the lossless compressed FLAC. ALAC etc. download options (or an eighteenth of the WAV option). So, pay up and get a proper earful.

I'd love to BUT.....Since my credit card was hacked a little while ago, I no longer make internet purchases by card (apart from one or two highly trusted sites).

So unless the seller can offer purchase by bank transfer, I keep my hands in my pockets.

I only realised yesterday that I'd 'only' downloaded the MP3s of RB's (& co) last few albums on Bandcamp, so today I went and downloaded the FLAC versions.

Using Paypal, you can effectively do just that, paying directly from your bank account.

I didn't know the streaming limit was 3 plays and I wonder how Tania found that out - I just had a poke around in my account settings and didn't find any confirmation that my limit was the same or any means of changing it. I'm happy for people to stream the lossy version to see if they like the music enough to part with their zlotys and I'm not expecting to make a mint out of this release, but it's maybe worth mentioning that the instrumentalists donated some considerable time and effort to their contributions, in two cases going into a studio and engaging an engineer, not to mention the seven weeks that the electronic realisations took. Of course one reason why all that was possible was the fact that people's schedules have tended over the past year to be less full than usual, let's say. (All profits will be equally shared among the contributors, needless to say.)

Oops! I just reviewed my message exchange with Tania. It's 2, not 3, free steamings before download. "this is intentional" was her response after she checked, (presumably with Bandcamp). The reference to streaming here relates specifically to free streaming without ordering. Once one has paid, streaming is unlimited and can be at a higher data rate.

Thanks for that. I've opened, hopefully in a very low risk way, a Paypal account, and have now made the purchase.

                        Many thanks again...

No problem. It's fine as long as one has funds in one's bank account to cover the purchase. If not, Paypal may revert to using your credit card, though that option may be configurable.

Any thoughts about what the spinning tops are doing here? Are they making sounds?

                              Are Natasha and Richard related?

No they aren't, nor in fact have they ever met!
